3D scanning & LiDAR
Sag and Clearances of a Medium-Voltage Overhead Line — LiDAR Drone
- Year
- 2026
- Location
- North-western Bulgaria
- Our role
- Airborne laser scanning with a LiDAR drone, catenary modelling of the conductors, sag and clearances to the ground and objects under the line.
- Surveyed on 4 August 2026 with a RIEGL miniVUX-3UAV LiDAR — a flight of about 3 minutes tied to 8 ground control points.
- Medium-voltage line — 5 poles, spans of 56 to 64 m and a 40.5 m branch.
- 15 conductors, each described by a catenary — mean deviation of the points from the curves 1–2 cm.
- Sag from 1.0 to 2.4 m; minimum ground clearance 6.69 m.
- Objects under the line — the smallest vertical distance to an object is 2.4 m.
- Comparison with the minimum clearances of Bulgarian Ordinance No. 3 (6 m unpopulated area, 7 m populated area).
Deliverables: classified point cloud, 3D conductor model, table by span, profiles along the route and a report.
With the regulatory requirements in detail: Power Line Sag — Measured with a LiDAR Drone.
